I can no longer start Thunderbird in the sandbox

Post by Mr.Z »

I have updated from Sandboxie-Plus 0.9.8.4 to 1.05 and 1.06. Now I can't launch Thunderbird in the sandbox.
Thunderbird reports:
Thunderbird beenden
Thunderbird wird bereits ausgeführt, reagiert aber nicht. Der offene Thunderbird-Pozess muss beendet werden, um ein neues Fenster zu öffnen.
Quit Thunderbird
Thunderbird is already running but not responding. The open Thunderbird pozess must be terminated to open a new window.

When I go back to Sandboxie-Plus 0.9.8.4, Thunderbird starts again.

Does the issue persists even after clearing the box?

Also could you please test the intermediate builds, and tell me in which exact build the issue got introduced.

for me thunderbird seams working fine so its not a general issue but something configuration specific probably.

With version 0.9.8.4 Thunderbird works.
From version 1.0.0.0 it does not work.
I just tested it again and emptied the sandbox folder each time.

But: I have a special configuration [browser] for Firefox (91.5.0 ESR) and for Thunderbird. Firefox continues to work in this browser-box, only Thunderbird does not.

In the default-box Thunderbird also starts. So it will be because of the configuration, as you suspected.... But what could it be?

hmm.... even with that config for me it works,
I presume its this line
"OpenFilePath=thunderbird.exe,D:\Eigene Dateien\Office\Thunderbird\AppData Roaming\Thunderbird\"
inc ombination with your actual local setup.

can you test if when you disable it it works?

Deleting the line from the ini file was unfortunately not the solution after all. I could then start Thunderbird again, but not save anything.... After a longer search I have now found the solution and would like to post it here. Maybe it is interesting for someone else:

The default path for Thunderbird is "%AppData%\Roaming\Thunderbird".

But I moved everything, just to "D:\Eigene Dateien\Office\..." I didn't mention that here because I didn't even remember it. When I set this up in Sandboxie-Classic a long time ago and allowed this path for direct access, it worked. It also worked with Sandboxie-Plus at first.

What I forgot about this is "%AppData%\Roaming\Thunderbird".
There I simply deleted the Thunderbird folder and replaced it with a Symbolic Link!

Sandboxie-Plus as of Verson 1.x apparently now handles Symbolic Links differently.
Additionally allowing direct access to "%AppData%\Roaming\Thunderbird" did not solve my problem though.
I also have to delete "D:\Eigene Dateien\Office\Thunderbird\AppData Roaming\Thunderbird" from the configuration.

Now everything works again even with the current versions!
