Web site navigation not working.

Using Sandboxie Classic 5.70.8 x64, all of a sudden web site navigation in Firefox stopped. Deleted sandbox, removed Sandboxie, rebooted, reinstalled, no change.

Uninstalled Sandboxie again, rebooted, installed Sandboxie Plus 1.15.8 x64 and still have the same issue. No matter what I try, even www.google.com, I get nowhere. No error feedback of any kind, just a blank window.

Uninstalled Firefox and reinstalled. No change.

This only does this running Firefox sandboxed. Other browsers work fine.

Any help or ideas on this?

This is supposed to be fixed with the upcoming Sandboxie-Plus 1.15.9 (or 5.70.9 for the Classic version).

Firefox changed how they enforce their sandbox, which was not compatible with Sandboxie. As a workaround, you can change the sandboxing level of Firefox temporarily via about:config and setting security.sandbox.content.level to 7.

EDIT: The other two options are not using Firefox in Sandboxie, until the new version of Sandboxie has been released, or using an older version of Firefox just for Sandboxie.

Thanks for the answer. That didn't work though. Did this just happen overnight? Because it was just working yesterday. Or was I just dodging the bullet until today?

There is a third option: Use something other than Firefox for the time being.

Thanks for the suggestions! Installed a version a notch lower and turned off automatic updates. Back to normal now.

Would like to report the same. Tabs crashing after updating Firefox to version 137.0. Reducing the security level to 7. Not sure what that means to my security. Hope I can get it back up to 8 with a new SandboxIE version.

How did you roll back to the Firefox version prior to the latest update?
Download Firefox 135.0.1 standalone installer. Remove your existing Firefox, then install this. It will update pretty quickly to 136, but go into settings right away and disable automatic updating before it updates to 137. Apparently 137, the current version, is the one that doesn't get along with Sandboxie. I intend to leave mine on 136 until the issue is resolved.

How to Downgrade Firefox from v137 to v136

Note: This downgrade is necessary due to compatibility issues between Firefox 137 and Sandboxie+ 1.15.8. A fixed version (Sandboxie+ 1.15.9) is expected soon. For more details, see the Wilders Security thread: Firefox 137 Fix in SB+ 1.15.9.

  1. Back up your Firefox profile:

    • Navigate to:
    Code:
    %AppData%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\
    • Copy your profile folder to a safe location.

  2. Download and install Firefox 136.0.4:

    • Get the installer here:
    Code:
    https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/136.0.4/win64/en-US/
    • Run the installer to overwrite your existing Firefox installation.

  3. Fix profile compatibility (if needed):

    • If Firefox shows a profile error:

    - Go to your profile folder (same as Step 1)
    - Open compatibility.ini in a text editor
    - Find the line:
    Code:
    LastVersion=137.0.0_XXX
    - Change it to:
    Code:
    LastVersion=136.0.4_XXX

    • Save the file and restart Firefox.
