Unable to sandbox FireFox

Firefox runs ok but when I try to start it sandboxed I get the following error message from firefox: Couldn't load XPCOM.
Do you have any clues or suggestions?

Usually, Firefox can be sandboxed within Sandboxie.

What version of Sandboxie and Firefox do you run? And on which system (e.g. Windows 10 22H2)?

Maybe you can try with a new profile or by blocking access to the profile by adding the following line your configuration, while modifying the name and ID:
Code:
ClosedFilePath=C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\[profile-ID]

I use:
Sandboxie-Plus v. 1.11.4
FireFox v. 133.0 (64 bit)
Windows 11 Home v. 10.0.22631 Build 22631

Thankyou for your support

You could try with the latest version of Sandboxie, which is 1.15.3 at the time of writing. There have been fixes regarding Firefox and Sandboxie itself got fixes and improvements.

I upgraded to Sandboxie 1.15.3 but got the same results (see attached printscreen)

I've got exactly the same problem. It came after I updated windows to
2024-11 Kumulatives Update für Windows 11 Version 24H2 für x64-basierte Systeme (KB5046740)

Edition Windows 11 Home
Version 24H2
Installiert am ‎06.‎12.‎2024
Betriebssystembuild 26100.2454

I then updated sandboxie+ and are at the same status as @keros , see screenshots.

would be glad to get same suggestions too

Now I completely uninstalled Firefox, deleted all profile data and reinstalled it.
The errors remain: using sandboxie+ firefox will not start and throws the above mentioned errors.
Without sandboxie / sbxie temp. disabled Firefox starts normally.

Please help. I usually do not use browsers without sandboxie

I came here seeking help, and before I started a new thread, this one seems to apply to me as well. My error reads slightly different, I am putting a picture just below. I had not updated Firefox, and I had not updated Sandboxie, but yesterday when I went to start Firefox I got the error.

I do imagine that Win 11 stuck in some update, they always do. I imagine that was what caused it.

I checked for newest version of Firefox, and there were no updates. I checked for new version of Sandboxie, and there was an update, so I ran it.

I've seen different things suggesting to remove Firefox and reinstall it, but I do not want to lose all my open tabs.

I also seek any idea please?

Edit: Adding my system info:
Sandboxie v. 5.70.3 (64-bit)
Firefox v. 133.0 (64-bit)
Win 11 Home v. 23H2 (OS Build 22631.4460)

Thanks for any help!

Jeff

Thank you thank you! I'm new here, and do not know my way around, is there some way I can know if and when the problem is solved?

You are welcome. The most reliable way to know if there is a workaround or fix, is to look at the issue I linked to, and to observe its status has changed to closed (in which case it should be fixed) or tagged with the label workaround. The issue then might contain steps to follow, like disabling a setting in Sandboxie or changing a setting. Those are often posted by offhub or by David himself.

I intend to update this thread, when the issue has been resolved. (There could be a delay, since I might lack time to do so.)

AWESOME and THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! I will keep that page open and check it periodically

  1. Go to the Program Files folder inside the sandbox using unsandboxed Windows Explorer, and if there is a Mozilla Firefox folder, delete it or rename it. After this, run Firefox.
    C:\Sandbox\<user>\<BOX>\drive\C\Program Files\

  2. Alternatively, try running Firefox after completely cleaning the contents of the sandbox. [Please note that cleaning the contents of the sandbox will delete all data inside it] (Right click on the sandbox > Delete Content)

Hi. I came on to this thread for problems with Firefox 1.15 and SandboxIE. I have reinstalled Firefox and SandboxIE. I still get the message included in the picture. Thanks for the help.

After Step 1. I keep getting this message. It means "Your profile "Firefox" cannot be loaded. It may not exist or may not be accessible."

I tryed Step 2 and firefox runs as before. That's the solution for me!
THANX to @offhub !!!

You can add the following setting to prevent the error from recurring:
DontCopy=%ProgramFiles%*\Mozilla Firefox\*

Per box setting:
Sandboxie-Plus > Right click on the sandbox > Sandbox Options > Edit Ini Section > Copy and paste the line to the bottom of the list > OK

OR

Global Setting:
Sandboxie-Plus > Options > Global Settings > Edit Ini Section > Copy and paste the line to the bottom of the list > OK

    C:\Sandbox\<user>\<BOX>\drive\C\Program Files\

I did this and it DID WORK for me! THANK YOU!!
And when it opened, ALL MY SAVED TABS were right there just like they're supposed to be :)

I didn't want to do the 2nd one, because if I emptied the sandbox, it would lose all my saved tabs. Fortunately, the 1st one worked and I didn't have to --

AGAIN, THANK YOU!

I have created the following issue on the bug tracker.

There seems to be an incompatibility with a recent version of Windows, as it worked before and seems to work with Windows 10.

This may not be the right place, but since I'm here --

I am using the older Sandboxie, not the Sandboxie-Plus. I assume all are the same people now, and I'd like to donate. but I do want to make sure it gets to the right place! Will you please tell me the correct place to donate at current time? Thank you!
