When Turbotax Canada save a return file, recovering it to the original location would cause return file to no longer appear inside the sandbox. The only way to make the file reappear in the sandbox is to rename the file in the original location. But changing the file would disappear again if the name is changed back.
Here are the steps to recreate it.
1. Install and run Turbotax Canada in a sandbox.
2. Start a new return and save it.
3. When the recovery prompt pops up, recover the file to the original location.
4. Close Turbotax and restart it.
5. Choosing open return. The saved return file would not be found (inside the sandbox). But in the original (non-sandboxed) location, the file is clear there.
And as long as the return file is not recovered to the original location, Turbotax Canada has no problem finding it inside the sandbox.
This problem does not seem to affect simple notepad saves or saves by MS Word. Only Turbotax Canada.
I have not tried it with Turbotax US. But I suspect it might have similar issue.
