Sandboxie terminating all apps within seconds

Second time this has happened in one week and I've tried deleting everything I could find on the computer including the entire sandbox folder and the sandboxie-plus folder, also rebooted but still does it. Is it something in the registry perhaps because I can't find anything in roaming or local. I do not have the setting checked to terminate apps.

Actually before I can even load an app when I right click on DefaultBox and choose run program it won't even open the box to let me choose it will just terminate. Taking the .exe and dragging it to the DefaultBox doesn't work either. Please help.

Do you have some security software running?

It looks like something prevented the SandboxieDcomLauncher (SandboxieDcomLaunch.exe) from starting. This can be caused by antivirus software.

I mentioned this happened twice this week, when it happened the first time I thought it was AVG, so I completely uninstalled AVG. I'm not even running Defender either it's somehow uninstalled, so no antivirus.

The more I try to fix it the worse things get. I tried a system restore it didn't work, then I was going to try Sandboxie regular instead of Sandboxie plus it says to uninstall Sandboxie plus I go to do that just now I can't even uninstall it or run it, I get this error.

1sandUntitled.png

So I can't run, I can't uninstall it, can't system restore to help, I can't do anything.

Both times it happened I was just in the start menu messing with settings and all the sudden it starting termining the app. The first time it was this app I was sandboxing because I reinstalled that app and it fixed it, but not this time it happened with ALL apps, and nothing I've tried can fix it. The apps run fine outside of Sandboxie too. So bizarre.

Maybe someone could upload the file I'm missing? KMDUtil.exe. I can't run or even uninstall without it.

Edit: I tried a portable install before 1sandUntitled.pngand it's there but it's corrupted.

I've sent you a copy of KmdUtil.exe, in the hope that this fixes it for you.

It doesn't work because in trying everything I installed an earlier version of sandboxie plus, can't even remember which version. Still get the same error.

I'm probably screwed.

If anyone ever has problems uninstalling or installing tell them to use Revo Uninstaller. It is pretty awesome it'll find everything including registries and you can delete them all. I've got it re-installed.

Still the bigger issue might be why is it terminating everything? Twice now. I wonder if my computer has a virus that's causing it.

Wow I should have tried it before assuming it was fixed, it still terminates when trying to run an app. This is unbelievable. After a fresh install and everything.

Can you state which version of Windows (e.g. Windows 11 25H2) you are using and if there is anything different?

I'm still using Windows 10, build 19045.

I tried making a video to upload to youtube and it looks like it's recording but it doesn't actually give me the video to upload when I go into videos. But what's happening is I right click on DefaultBox > run > run program then it loads Sandboxierpcss.exe and SandboxieDcomLaunch.exe for just a second then erases those and it just says DefaultBox again.

I installed Malwarebytes I'm running a scan.

Update: Malwarebytes found a few trojans, but it still does the same thing.

Thank you for the new information.

This sounds like it is supposed to be started by either something prevents it from starting or there is something else that does not work as it should.

I am unsure, how I could help you. Maybe someone else has a good idea how to resolve it.

Even regular Sandboxie does the same thing. Is there an alternative to sandboxie? I was going to use virtualbox but you have to install windows and all that I don't want to do all that. Sandboxie is simple and I would love it, only if it worked.

They don't differ on a technical level, unless one considers ARM support, which is only available in Sandboxie Plus, since that is a new development. Both Sandboxie Classic and Sandboxie Plus use the same core components. The user interface for Sandboxie Classic is no longer developed and lacks some options to control the behavior. The user interface of Sandboxie Plus is based on Qt6. It makes many things easier.

Is there an alternative to sandboxie?

This may depend on what you are looking for.

With recent versions of Windows, one can use the Windows Sandbox, which does not retain data, once terminated. At least as far as I know.

Any virtual machine, like VirtualBox or VMware, or any other can provide a working environment. The downside is that it takes more resources and may require a valid Windows license.

There is another tool, Shadow Defender, that takes a current snapshot and discards all changes made to the system, with the option to keep desired changes. E.g. it should be possible to update software and keep the update.

It is not possible to fully uninstall Microsoft Defender on Windows 10 through standard means, as it is a core, integrated component of the operating system. However, it can be permanently disabled or will disable itself automatically if a third-party antivirus program is installed.
