Sandboxie no longer working, possibly due to some windows update (Steam and UnrealEngine examples)

Hello Xanasoft Team and Webmasters of this site!

I'm a GameDev from Honduras.

Back in February I did a bunch of tests with Steam and a multiplayer game I was developing.
I used either version 1.15.6 or 1.15.9, and my OS was W10 Pro (still is)
I believe I did the testing for around 1 month, and things worked perfectly.
I used this tutorial as reference for installing and setting up the program.

Just yesterday I had to start testing on another multiplayer project, So I Opened Sandboxie as usual (the same version)
then I added both Steam and the new game to the Run menu (just like before)
And nothing happened, neither steam nor the game opened.

So I did a couple things. First thing was to update Sandboxie, and so I got the latest version. this didn't work
then I reinstalled Steam, first on my main drive, then on my secondary drive. didn't work
It looks like the program is trying to run, but nothing happens.

I was just trying to get steam running before running the game.
One thing I notice, If I try to run steam and leave it for around 5 mins, I get a message. but the program never runs

I tried a bunch of things at this point
Restart as Admin, played around with the Sandbox Presets, nothing changes, except maybe when I check the "Allow network Share"
In that case I get SBIE1307, follow by me adding everything I find to the "Allow access" List
But this didn't work

I finally began testing old Sandboxie versions. I went as far back as Classic 5.69, but nothing worked.

At this point I'm thinking that sandboxie isn't the issue, maybe windows.
As an extra note, I'm on the same OS, I use no Antivirus on this Pc, no firewall, not event the default windows defender, everything is disabled as I'm trying to get the programs running.
The weird part is that, by February, everything was working flawlessly. I don't remember disabling a thing.
Is there a possible fix for this? Maybe is windows fault?

Thank you for all the details you provided.

Maybe there is something in the sandbox or with the setting. You can try with a new empty sandbox, instead of clearing "DefaultBox". In the top row, click the sandbox menu entry and then select "Create New Box".

The next step would be to back everything up (files and settings) and uninstall Sandboxie-Plus, before re-installing it. It should not be at fault, as it worked before, but a clean installation of Sandboxie-Plus might be worth a try.

I reinstalled sandboxie, trying to keep the settings the same.
Deleted the default box. made a new one (yellow)
this is what I get

But this was only the first time, I tried again, and got no error.
just the same behavior as before, a bunch of processes show up and then banish

That is strange, like there would be something that tries to prevent Sandboxie from operating normally.

Right now, I don't know how to troubleshoot this. Maybe the developer has some idea, why this might be happening.

I guess it's time to move on and do my tests using a secondary physical device. (laptop probably)
But it was nice to use sandboxie during those months.
My guess here, is that something OS related is messing with the program.

Btw. Do you know any Admin? I have a small request I want to make on private.

I manage to get it working, after a couple days of try and error.

This is how.
1- Uninstall the program. (remove everything)
2.- Install the latest version. (doesn't matter the drive)
3- Open sandboxie but do not use the default box, just create a new "Standard box"
4- Change the "Sandbox Presets" on this new box and check "Allow Network Share"
5- Use this new box to run programs.

Note: Steam takes longer than usual to open for the first couple attempts, but after those attempts, it will open faster once you have your secondary account set up.
sometimes steam gives the same error as before (steamwebhelper stopped or something), in that case just click on "CANCEL"
Those processes with yellow arrows pointing downwards are the indication that things are going to work.
if you don't get those, then it will not work.

I get this window once the UnrealEngine executable game build is running.
Don't know what this is, but I get no errors, the game runs normally.

One last observation
Avoid "Force into this sandbox", at least for me, using this Preset will block your regular Steam from running.

Thank you for your observations and your feedback.

I get this window once the UnrealEngine executable game build is running.
Don't know what this is, but I get no errors

That is the file-recovery dialog, which is shown when files are created on the desktop, the document folder, the download folder within the sandbox, as automatic file recovery is enabled. (AutoRecover=y) Settings for file recovery can be changed at Sandbox Options > File Options > [File Recovery]

Avoid "Force into this sandbox", at least for me, using this Preset will block your regular Steam from running.

Once something is set to be forced into a sandbox, Sandboxie will make it start in the sandbox. This also means that if something is supposed to be started outside of Sandboxie's control and at the same time under its control, forced rules are conflicting with that. You can start a process with Sandboxie, telling Sandboxie to ignore the force rules, have the process run outside the sandbox and start the same program in Sandboxie within a sandbox, but if something launches the program that is forced into a sandbox, Sandboxie will force it into that sandbox.

Force rules were most likely invented for the purpose of having the browser to be forced into a sandbox, without the user having to remember to start it with Sandboxie, or have a special shortcut for it, or to avoid the browser being started by something else, where it would be ungoverned by Sandboxie.
