NVIDIA graphics driver component (nvngx_update.exe) giving error using Sandboxie

Stardust

New member
Hello,

This error (nvngx_update.exe) seems to pop up on Steam launch and while using Sandboxie, which will lock up Sandboxie for 2 to 3 min then crash Sandboxie and the application. Troubleshooting button reports the issue.

Any suggestions?

Computer: Windows 11 (home)
using: Sandboxie Plus v1.15.12

Thank you.

Hello, as a workaround, you can try what happens if you block the updater from starting.

Sandbox Options > Program Control > [Start restrictions] > "Prevent selected programs from starting in this sandbox"
Add nvngx_update.exe

This will add

Code:
ProcessGroup=<StartRunAccess>,nvngx_update.exe
ClosedIpcPath=<StartRunAccess>,*

to the INI of that sandbox.

As far as I know it does not have been reported as an issue, in the official tracker, maybe David got some private reports.

I'll give it a try. Thank you for the response.

Hello,

This didn't completely fix the problem and still get some application lockups and sometimes computer freezes for 5 min or I just reboot.

You think App Compartment Mode will fix the issue?

Thank you.

You think App Compartment Mode will fix the issue?

Well, the application compartment mode is supposed to be more compatible, but it's not guaranteed, not do I know if it works.

Depending on how long it takes for the issues to show up, you can use the 5 minutes to test if an app compartment box helps. It should be possible to request a test certificate for evaluating, if the 5 minutes are too short to test it.

Did someone else have the same issue or even better got it to work?

I email to request a 'test certificate'?

David used to send out such certificates after being prompted per e-mail, and there might be still reasons why that is required, but there is an easier way to get an "evaluation certificate".

If you go to Global Settings > Support & Updates > [Sandboxie Support] there should be a link labeled "Get a free evaluation certificate" followed by "and enjoy all premium features for ~10 days". The link opens a dialog for you to input a valid e-mail address to which an "evaluation certificate" is sent.

(The link is not shown, if a certificate has been added.)
