Encrypted USB neither unmounting nor opening after Decrypt

I encrypted a USB drive without boot loader. I wanted to use it as a non-bootable USB.

For few days it working perfectly. I was able to mount and dismount. But from yesterday, the UI was showing successfully mounted but in the explorer the mounted partition was not appearing.

Today I decrypted it. Even after decryption it is not opening. It shows "Access is denied".

I have a similar problem. I have an external usb drive that I encrypted and have been using for a long time. Now it fails to work. I managed to uncrypt it, but now I'm stuck. I get a message saying something like "drive is not usable... corrupted or unreadable". The troubleshooting section for DC mentions using a "drive header back up" or something but I don't have one.

Previously I used a USB stick and over time it started to fail, so I started using a proper ssd-drive.

What is causing this problem? Is there hope to reclaim my information?

  • Could the problem be caused by the usb connection itself? When I used the stick I noticed it mattered which port I connected it to. USB ports are pretty unreliable in my experience.
  • Could the drive be the problem?
  • Could the program be the problem?
Please help.
