Copy & Paste crashes Chrome browser when running in sandbox

This problem has been ongoing across recent version updates. If I am on a site with a search box, Chrome browser crashes immediately ... as in, as soon CTRL-V is pressed with the cursor in the search box. I have deleted the contents of the box and restarted it to generate a new, sandboxed version of chrome within to no avail. I've set up new boxes from scratch and the behavior is the same. This happens across ALL websites that I've tried it in. Clearly not an exhaustive test, but it seems broad enough that I don't think it's related to the underlying coding. Incidentally, Chrome browser does NOT crash in this way if it is running UN-sandboxed.

The problem occurs in a sandbox set up as "Security Hardened" (it is NOT using Data Security) but the same result occurs in using a newly created "Standard" sandbox, so I'm not convinced it's a function of security choices either, tho I'm certainly willing to be shown otherwise.

If I simply type the content into a website search box, searches run fine and as expected, but it's a PIA to have to do so. Much easier to Cut & Paste. The "Cut" part works fine, as I can see the content in windows clipboard, it's the "Paste" part that is the bugbear.

I don't recall this being an issue in the past, tho how far back or which version it was when it first appeared, I cannot recall. Suffice to say that it has been a problem for a while now.

Any insights as to why this is happening and how to correct the problem? Many thanks in advance for your help!

Hello,

someone reported that copy and paste does not work for him. So far I had no issues.

Can you please mention the OS version (e.g. Windows 11 25H2), the Sandboxie version you are running right now, as well as the Chrome version you use? Maybe someone can test with that configuration.

Edition Windows 11 Pro
Version 25H2
OS build 26200.7019

Sandboxie-Plus version 1.16.5
SbieDrv.sys: 5.7.1.5
SbieSvc.exe: 5.7.1.5
SbieDll.dll: 5.7.1.5

Chrome Version: 142.0.7444.136 (Official Build) (64-bit)

Although I should note that the above have all (likely) gone through update cycles since the problem began and it persists. In fact, Chrome updated from the above to Version 142.0.7444.163 (Official Build) (64-bit) while was gathering this information and the problem continues to occur.

Let me know if there's any further information or testing you would like from me to try and pin this down and squash it.

Many thanks...

Nothing further on this issue? The problem with Chrome crashing if a copied item is pasted into a search box persists, even in brand new sandboxes at the "Standard Sandbox" level and above. I haven't tried at just the "Application Compartment" level, since the reason for usage is that I am using or visiting untrusted resources. Pasting into the address works as expected. Pasting into a SEARCH box, ANY search box, on ANY site ... i.e., Google, Amazon, any random site you can think of apparently, causes the browser to crash out. I haven't run into a single exception, tho I admit I haven't tried it everywhere since it's a PIA to have to reopen, reload, etc..

Interestingly, I just tried this in Firefox, and in the very brief test, it did NOT crash like its Chromium based brethren, so there's a possible clue as to the problem? I don't generally use Firefox, for various reasons, but it shouldn't be happening in any browser regardless.

Surely others are seeing this problem ???

Thanks in a advance for replies and help.

Thank you for providing additional details.

There have been no public reports in this forum or on the GitHub issue tracker. Most people are probably using a Chromium based browser and typing something in a search bar is not something rare, so I expect that there would be some reports. The developer should look into this.

Roger that. Yes, I would agree most folks are probably using a Chromium based browser at this point, so it's curious that there isn't a more widespread report of an issue. Highlighting a bit of text, copying it to the clipboard, and dropping it into a site's search bar seems like it would be a common occurrence, but perhaps copy/paste is less common and manual typing in is more common than I think? Oh well, hope and wait seems like the letter of the day for now.
