Cannot run sandboxie+ with SBIE2337, SBIE2204

Hello, I have been using Sandbox+ well.

Before -> After

  • Windows 10 -> Windows 11 (both x64)
  • SB+ 0.9.8b -> SB+ 1.15.3
Last weekend, I updated to Windows 11 23H2, and since then, Sandbox+ has not been working.
I have attached the information and logs already.

I also tried granting administrator privileges to c:\program files\sandbox\start.exe, but it didn't work.

Could you help me understand the reason and provide a solution?

It seems like an error due to character encoding differences.

1. Stop the Sandboxie service and driver by going to Sandboxie Plus > Maintenance > Stop All.
2. Then, go to the C:\Windows\ folder and rename the Sandboxie.ini file to Sandboxie.ini.BAK.
3. Restart the system.
4. When the system restarts, Sandboxie will create a new configuration file.
5. Check if programs are working with this new configuration file.
6. If the programs work properly, manually transfer the settings from the old configuration to the new one and try again.

However, even after trying the method you mentioned and reinstalling after uninstalling, the issue remains the same.
The contents of the newly created sandbox.ini and sandbox.ini.bak files were also the same.
I confirmed that sandbox.ini in the Windows folder is deleted when I uninstall.

When reinstalling, this error occurs:
This Korean message means, "The requested operation requires elevation."

So I tried granting administrator privileges to c:\program files\sandbox\start.exe, but it didn't work.

Unfortunately, when I try (Sandboxie Plus > Sandbox > Restart As Admin),

the Sandbox window closes, and nothing happens.

I expected the window to reopen, but there’s no response at all.

When I manually launch Sandboxie Plus again, the issue remains the same.

Have you tried running "SandMan" manually as admin by right-clicking and selecting "Run as administrator"? If so, did it make any difference?

However, after uninstalling and reinstalling, it worked.

I thought the issue was resolved, but after rebooting and trying again the next day, it stopped working again.

I will study the issue reproduction path and possible solutions based on your advice.

I had the same symptoms.
It's not a surefire way, but here's a temporary solution I found: Repeat installing and uninstalling until a lower version works fine.
In my case, it worked fine with Plus version v1.14.5 / Classic version 5.69.5. It's a small thing, but I hope it helps.
