Brave no longer runs sandboxed after the latest (Brave) update

When trying to run Brave sandboxed: In Sandboxie Control, I see the plus sign appear before the relevant Sandbox, then it disappears after 4 seconds. That’s all that happens. No icon on the taskbar visible.

Some details:

It happens in all Sandboxes, previously used sandboxes, emptied Sandboxes, and in a new Sandbox as well.

Brave starts normally outside the Sandbox.

Local account, admin.

Running MS Defender

Issue started directly after installing Brave 141.1.83.108

Sandboxie Classic 5.71.3 was running at het time the issue occurrred, in the meantime Sanboxie Classic 5.71.4 came out, install did not solve the issue.

Windows 10

I guess that Sandboxie does not report anything being wrong. If there is a message, please share it.

Can you try with DropAdminRights=y set in a new sandbox? In Sandboxie Classic that should be located at Sandbox Options > Restrictions > Drop-Rights > "Drop Rights from Administrator..." (In Sandboxie-Plus that is located at Sandbox Options > Security Options > [Security Hardening] > Elevation Restriction > "Drop Rights from Administrator...")

Maybe Brave did the same as Chrome and does not want users to start the browser as admin, for security reasons. I did not see that in the change log, but since both are based on Chromium, maybe it is an inherited code change from it.

I waited a bit, before I reply to this thread. For some reason, there are no reports in the official bug tracker of Sandboxie, nor did anyone report it here. There are users that use Brave, as there have been bug-reports by them. I don't know what is causing the issue.

Same problem for me : Brave doesn't work with Sandboxie now

What system are you on? (e.g. Windows 11 24H2) What version of Sandboxie do you saw this problem with?

David, might be able to pin the issue down, when he knows if that is happening on all systems or if not, what they have in common.

Hello I'm on Sandboxie classic 5.71.4 and Windows 10. Maybe the problem is only on Win10. Soon I will upgrade to Win11 and we'll see

I'm running Sandboxie-Plus 1.16.3 and brave is working for me. I have it in a hardened box. However, duckduckgo doesn't work as of this update.

Maybe Sandboxie-Plus 1.16.4, released three weeks ago, solves this even though there was no change to address issues with Chromium based browsers.

Do you get any messages from the browser or Sandboxie, when it does not work, by what I assume means it won't start anymore?
It just crashes at launch and gives this giant error. Pre upgrade I had it running in a Hardened box w/ data protection and made no configuration changes post upgrade. I've tested it as an application box as well and get the same error.
